Man charged in connection with death of Fairport teacher expected in court

The man charged in connection with the death of a Fairport teacher is due in court Monday for the beginning of his trial.

Mark Scerbo is charged with vehicular manslaughter and aggravated DWI.

News10NBC previously reported that Scerbo would be tried along with Megan Merkel. Merkel is accused of vehicular manslaughter in the same crash.

Investigators say Scerbo was driving a motorcycle on July 29 when he hit Heather Boyum who was riding her bike on Route 250 in Penfield. Boyum was then hit by a car police say was driven by Merkel.

Cruise Nights moving out of the village of Fairport

Cruise Nights moving out of the village of Fairport

At the end of May, Tuesday nights will not be filled with the rumble of car engines as the weekly Cruise Night event will no longer be held in the village of Fairport.

Cruise Nights were held in the parking lot of the village’s Box Factory and featured a vast display of classic cars from area collectors and live music.

Organizer Larry Dilullo announced this week that the popular summer event will be moving to the Burgundy Basin Inn starting May 28 after 11 years in the village.

He said the reason was partly due to the cost of renting the space next to the Box Factory, which was paid for by the Fairport-Perinton Merchants Association and two adjoining businesses, Lickety Splits and Towpath Cafe.

Meet Baxter!

Meet Baxter!

Baxter is a super sweet 11-year-old male Boxer who was brought to Lollypop Farm after living with his previous owner his whole life. His owner was moving and couldn't afford to bring him along.

Baxter is a sweet and friendly older dog. He's a real lover who likes people and attention. Baxter is said to be like a shadow and will follow you around wherever you go and likes to be near you when relaxing at home. Lollypop Farm recommends that Baxter go to a home with kids age 10 or older and he must meet any dogs already living in the home. Baxter has some arthritis issues so while he may not be able to go for a long hike or play like a puppy, he would make someone a wonderful and calm companion.

Baxter is available for our Seniors-for-Seniors program where approved adopters age 60 or older can adopt him for free. Come meet Baxter at Lollypop Farm in Fairport. This lovable older guy needs a new home for his golden years!
