Local hockey players and fans are getting ready for a fun-filled weekend in Fairport, and businesses are ready to cash in.
It's an event that generated tens of thousands of dollars for the village of Fairport last year and organizers are hoping to do it again. It's the second annual Rochester Pond Hockey Regional Tournament, and the festivities start at 8:00 a.m on Saturday. Hundreds of grown men will revert back to their younger days by gearing up, and swinging their sticks.
"We just want a lot of people to come out. The weathers going to be great this year. Last year it was pretty cold," says Village Deputy Mayor Kevin Clark.
A team of News 10NBC staffers will also be on the ice this weekend. Their first game starts at 11:00a.m.
"My son-in-law is playing at 11:00a.m. so maybe they're playing each other. That'll be fun to watch, says Fairport's Barry Palatas.
The winning team gets a prize and although it's supposed to be for fun, some of these men do get competitive so there are some ground rules. No checking, no body contact, no slap shots, and absolutely no fighting.
The event runs from 8:00a.m-8:00p.m. on Saturday and 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m on Sunday.
