Imagine what happens when several classic characters are thrown together into a single fair tale, with a twist. The result is both humorous and chaotic at times.

“It’s entertaining because it ties some familiar stories together,” said the show’s director John Polvino.

But while the familiar faces meet unfamiliar endings, the play brings a strong message for viewers of all ages.

What is the story’s theme? As ER senior Brittney Dorow explains, “Don’t be greedy, you’re never alone, trust the adults in your life, and don’t judge,” she said adding, “And be careful what you wish for.”

Fairport to present 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' Nov. 1-3

Fairport to present 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' Nov. 1-3

The Drama Club at Fairport High School will present one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” next week.

The mystical tale tells the story of four lovers and a group of aloof actors controlled by fairies armed with magic potions and other tricks to confuse and entrap their victims.

Instead of being set in ancient times, the play will be set in present day, although the language will remain the same.

FHS senior Brandon Paris plays the role of King Oberon, who has a tempestuous relationship with wife Titania (played by Katie Aroune).

Since there’s plenty of pushing and bickering between lovers whose affections are confused, the actors say the story is fun to tell through their physical movements when the words may be hard to understand.

“There’s a lot of good energy and classic Marx Brothers type comedy,” said Paris.
Aroune agreed, and said she encourages people to try something new.
