Fairport Rotary distributes funds to local charities

It’s one thing to write a check to a national charity, but members of the Fairport Rotary Club have a different focus when it comes to fundraising.

The club recently finished its round of spring giving to local charities and is preparing to distribute the next round of contributions, including a scholarship for a graduating Fairport High School senior.

About 56 businessmen and women are card carrying members of Fairport Rotary, which holds fundraisers throughout the year to support charitable groups in categories ranging from youth and education to helping seniors and veterans through Honor Flight.

Each year, the club gives about $15,000 back to different charities, both local and international.

Bob Hartnett is the chairman of the club’s charitable contributions committee. He said club members share a hometown and camaraderie that encourages them to be open-handed with their neighbors.
