Elderly woman's wallet stolen in East Rochester parking lot | Crime
East Rochester police are searching for the man who knocked a 90-year-old woman to the ground and stole her wallet in the Big Lots parking in East Rochester Thursday afternoon.
East Rochester police said the woman, who is not being identified at this time, was walking to her car in the parking lot, at 835 Fairport Road, at about 2 p.m. when the suspect approached her. There were no witnesses, according to East Rochester Police Chief John Tando, but a woman in the parking lot later heard the victim crying for help and called police. The victim, who complained of hip pain, was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police are describing the suspect as a 20-something black man in dark clothing. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to track him down, Tando said.
Along with East Rochester police, Monroe County sheriff's deputies and East Rochester ambulance responded to the scene. Tando said crime is very unusual in that shopping plaza. In the past seven years, this is only the second incident police have responded to there, Tando said.
