Hundreds participate in Firecracker 5K | News
Hundreds of people spend the first part of their Fourth of July hitting the pavement.
Close to 900 runners came out for the Firecracker 5K along the canal in Fairport. The race has been a tradition for more than 30 years. Organizers say this year had the biggest turn out ever.
News10NBC spoke with one runner who came all the way from Colorado to race for the first time in Fairport. Mandy Tulith said, “It was a nice course along the canal. It’s fun to get out on a holiday and get some exercise in before the festivities.”
Organizer Ellen Brenner-Boutillier said, “The participation this year is absolutely amazing. We did shift the time a half hour earlier. I don't know if that helps so more people could see the parade as well."
Organizers say 898 people registered for the event.
