The National League clobbered the American League in the All-Star game in Kansas City Tuesday night, but a Rochester man is a finalist in a contest that would let him play in his own all-star game.
It’s called the Pepsi Max “Field of Dreams” Challenge and an East Rochester man needs your votes to win.
Johnny Perotti is the American League winner and a young man from Washington, D.C. is the National League winner after more than three million entries. Now it’s up to fans to vote where Major League Baseball’s living legends game will be played, Rochester or D.C.
Perotti is a lifelong Yankees fan who grew up watching games with his grandmother. His online video shows him attending Empire State Yankee games.
Perotti selected players like Ricky Henderson and Frank Thomas, just a few of the names he hopes will be part of his roster.
He knows it will be tough to win since the D.C. area has more potential voters. But he adds this game would be a thrill for him and a great opportunity for the Rochester community.
Perotti said, “I’ve been the underdog. I like being the underdog. I'm from East Rochester, it's a small school we're the underdog in everything. I have nothing to lose. If I win it's exciting, if I lose everyone expects it. No big deal. But having it in Rochester, to play with my family, to have everyone I know to be able to watch us play and get to see these legends, not that many things come to Rochester. I think it would make huge impact.”
Johnny, his best friend, dad, uncle and cousin will be part of his team. They will play regardless of where the game is played, but he hopes the game will be in Rochester.
