New frozen yogurt cafe to open in Fairport

Where can you grab a latte with a side of mango sorbet and a choice of 40 toppings?

Thanks to the hard work of brothers Ken and Larry Cohen, that place will be Yummies, a frozen yogurt and specialty coffee shop in the village of Fairport.

The energetic brothers are natives of Buffalo, and see the new cafe as the fulfillment of their long-time dream.

“My brother and I always wanted to open a business together,” said Ken, 39, who left a job managing an optical store. Larry, 42, was transferred to Rochester while working for Windstream Corp.

After visiting another self-serve frozen yogurt shop last summer, they decided to pattern their business after the same concept. The result was a menu with 18 different flavors of “fro-yo” and a selection of 40 different toppings.

To make Yummies unique, the owners chose to add a separate area where hot coffee, tea, and fresh pastries are served. The spacious seating area also has free TV and Wi-Fi for those who want to catch up with friends or sit and surf the web.

Larry says being open past the summer months will make the shop a good alternative to other ice cream or “fro-yo” shops that close after the warm season.

“I think we have something for everybody here,” said Larry. “We want this to be a staple in Fairport.”

The owners also hope their location, next to Compane Brick Oven Bistro, will help draw customers as they look to become a household name.

“We want to be in Fairport because we love the community and we want to give back,” Ken explained.

The grand opening for Yummies is planned for Saturday, March 2.
