Fairport Ice Hockey Team advance to NYSPHSAA's Frozen Four in Utica

Thought the weather may be still cold and windy, the Fairport Ice Hockey Team is red hot! They have advanced to the New York State Public High School Athletics Association Frozen Four this weekend in Utica.

On Saturday March 8, Fairport will play Massena in the semifinal round of the state tournament. The game will be played at 12:00 p.m. in the Utica Memorial Auditorium. All tickets are $8. 

If Fairport beats Massena, the championship game will be played on Sunday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m. in Utica.

Drive held to collect used baseball equipment for Rochester city youth

Local Pittsford baseball players are collecting equipment to donate to Rochester Youth Baseball Coalition to help get more Rochester youth to play ball this season! 

Rochester Youth Baseball Coalition represents over 900 children ages 5-17 in 7 leagues.  The leagues include: Charlotte Youth Athletic Association; Eastside Little League; Genesee Valley Little League; Southside Little League; Rochester Hispanic Youth Baseball League; Rochester Renegades; and 18th Ward Youth Baseball. Research has shown that one of the barriers for Rochester youth to play baseball is purchasing proper equipment.  

You can drop off new basbell gloves, bats, helmets, cleats, pants, ball bags and catching equipment from now until the end of April at Diamond Pro Baseball in East Rochester, Elite Performance Baseball and Softball Training Center in East Rochester and Turf Time Indoor Sports Facility in Pittsford. 

 

 

 

Total Sports Experience to open new East Rochester facility

Total Sports Experience has opened its new East Rochester facility.

The 50,000 square foot facility has a boarded field, a 85'x140' boardless field, and community rooms.  Power Train Sports and Power Train Fitness is also be located in the front of the building.

Fairport Hockey to play West Genesee in state regional tournament

Fairport High School's Section V Ice Hockey Champions play West Genesee In a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Regional game on Saturday March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Shove Arena in Camillus, NY.

Due to limited seating at the rink, Section III has decided to do presale tickets for the game.

Fairport's allocation of tickets will be on sale to the community Friday, February 28 from 7:30am to 4:00pm in the Athletic Office.  Ticket price is $8.00.

 

Try hockey for free during “Hockey Weekend Across America”

The Rochester Americans are proud to support USA Hockey’s Hockey Weekend Across America, scheduled for Feb. 28 to Mar. 2, 2014. While the Amerks are on a road trip this weekend, the organization will be on hand at various Try Hockey For Free sessions around Rochester on Saturday, Mar. 1.

Hockey Weekend Across America was created by USA Hockey in 2008 to engage the hockey community in celebrating the sport of hockey at all levels and exposing the sport to new audiences.

Friday (Feb. 28) is USA Hockey’s “Wear Your Favorite Jersey” Day. Fans who wear their favorite Amerks jersey to work or school are encouraged to send photos to the Amerks’ official Facebook and Twitter accounts for the team to share.

Fairport Varsity Cheerleaders win first place at Monroe County Cheerleading competition

Fairport Varsity Cheerleaders win first place at Monroe County Cheerleading competition
The Fairport Varsity Cheerleaders came in first place for their division at the Monroe County Cheerleading competition on Thursday January 23 at Victor High School.
Three Fairport Varsity Cheerleaders also won All-County honors. Morgan Blanc won the first team All-County and won the Ronald McDonald Award. Chloe Viniski and Cara Duncan won first team and second team All-County honors respectively. 
The three cheerleaders will cheer with other cheerleaders from area schools who were also chosen to be on the county team.  The team will cheer at the Monroe County basketball game in February. 

Fairport student-athletes sign their letter of intent

The Fairport Central School District is celebrating the accomplishments of several members of the Class of 2014 as they sign their NCAA National Letter of Intent or make their verbal commitment to the colleges they will attend in Fall 2014, Feb. 5 at Fairport High School.

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who are honored:

  • Sara Cook, who will play soccer at Quinnipiac University
  • Alexandra Palluconi, who will play soccer at Indiana University of Pennsylvania
  • Nicole Petocchi, who will play soccer at Radford University
  • Caleb Robbins, who will play football at University of Akron
