Ribbon cutting for East Rochester's renovated outdoor pool

A ribbon-cutting and re-dedication of East Rochester's renovated Kate Gleason Memorial Outdoor Pool will be held on Tuesday June 18 at 6:30p.m.

The new pool features a water-powered chair lift and fiberglass stairs into the water. The pool building is also redesigned and renovated for better accessibility and more effective use of space.

The pool was built in 1949. It was dedicated to Kate Gleason, a pioneer and visionary in the field of engineering, architecture and banking. She used $100,000 of her $1,500,000 estate. An estimated 2,500 people attended the original ceremony.

The pool is behind the Bird/Morgan schools, on East Avenue (and adjacent to Edmund Lyon Park).  In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Bird/Morgan auditorium.
